Last Light Sneak Peek

"Mm. Stop." I hissed through clenched teeth. She's drunk, I thought, and that's to blame. So what was to blame for my growing hard-on?

"You're saying stop," she whispered, "but your body..."

My stomach pitched. Sickening. So what if my dick was getting hard? I didn't fucking want this-- and I wasn't about to take advantage of her.

I removed her hand carefully, though I wanted to fling it. I twisted away and adjusted my dick. Fuck... even my own touch burned, brushing over that stiff skin. Calm the fuck down...

"I know damn well what my body is doing," I snapped, too angry to feel embarrassed. "It's doing what it fucking should do when a pretty girl grabs my dick. And you're making a fool of yourself."

Tensions rise, secrets grow bigger, and passions run deeper—and hotter—in Last Light, the second novel of the Night Owl Trilogy from bestselling author M. Pierce.

Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead.

Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret: she knows Matt is alive. After Matt's memorial service, she lingers on the East Coast with his family, but it soon becomes clear that his brothers' motives are less than gracious. Nate Sky is bent on tracking down the author of Night Owl, a book that charts the last days of Matt's life with uncanny and scandalous accuracy, and which appeared only after his death. Seth Sky is bent on getting Hannah into his bed.

Hidden away in the woods, Matt and Hannah strive desperately to maintain their ruse and their relationship—but their web of lies only tightens as Matt struggles with the consequences of his decision, and Hannah tries to escape Nate's libel suit and fend off Seth's advances...until Hannah is put in danger, and Matt must make a life or death choice.

"You don't see the difference between fiction and reality. Everything is your story."

We're thrilled to participate in the blog tour for Night Owl (Book #1, Night Owl Trilogy), by M. Pierce. Make no mistake, this book is steamy - the sex is ridiculously raw and mind-blowing. However, just labeling Night Owl as only hot sex doesn't do the book or the author justice. Every book nerd is always looking for that book that sets itself apart. There's an invisible line that a book can cross that pushes it beyond anything else you've experienced. When that line is crossed, as a reader, you know that the author took a huge risk. They became vulnerable enough to give you everything in their heart and their soul. M. Pierce and Night Owl did exactly that. We're completely in love and lust over Matt Sky. Yes, he's an ass but he's so beautifully broken that you want to forgive him, save him, cuddle with him, submit to him, and spank the living daylights out of him. Today, we're excited to have Matt Sky visit our blog for a character interview. Find out his thoughts on meeting Hannah for the first time, Hannah & Nate's relationship, Hannah's surprise "birthday" present, and so much more.

Bravo, M, for being such a generous author and for creating characters and a story line that has us desperate, needy, and aching for more. You allowed us to feel every awkward, sizzling, painful, & poignant moment between Matt & Hannah. This is the story you were meant to write

Note: The Night Owl paperback releases live tomorrow, July 1st. Congrats M! If you haven't purchased the ebook, consider doing this now for $2.99. The ebook price is subject to increase significantly with the paperback release.

"I felt tattered in the best possible way, like our violent passion had blasted me clean. When I eased off Matt's arm and climbed out of his bed, I knew that I was leaving something behind. It was my old skin. He'd taken me for all I was worth."

Matt Sky Character Interview: What he says about Hannah, Nate, M., Laurence, and the infamous pig grunting scene?

Today is an exciting day at TRSoR because we have none other than Matt Sky here with us for a fun interview.

Hi, Matt! Thank you for letting us interview you. We know how private you are so this is a real treat. You look a little nervous. Don’t worry, we’ll be gentle-ish.

Thanks for having me. (Thanks for being gentle, too. I’ll try to return the favor.)

Before we get started, do you want to do a quick introduction and say hi to our followers who  haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you? You know, something like…. Hi, I’m Matt Sky, I have a pet rabbit, I like to talk dirty and stick my finger…

Ha! What’s this about my finger? Lisa, Milasy, get your minds out of the gutter.

As for my introduction, you pretty much got it covered. “I’m Matt Sky. I have a pet rabbit. Women are constantly imagining me doing inappropriate things with my fingers. No idea why…”

I also write fiction.

Okay, let’s start with some general questions.

1. Night Owl has been out for some time now. Congrats on the huge success! Lots and lots of great feedback, reviews, and support from the romance book community - a community that takes BBFs very seriously. Why do you think your character is so loved by readers, bloggers, and authors? What is it (or isn’t it) about you that has captured so many hearts and soaked so many panties?

I wish I knew. I think, at best, I’m kind of an asshole… cynical, narcissistic, a few sandwiches short of a picnic. But you’re right – readers like me well enough, and Hannah loves me. Somehow, she loves me. Maybe it’s because I’m good in bed. I feel like any number of sins can be forgiven if you’re good in bed. Am I right?

Mm. Sorry. I’m trying to answer this seriously. It’s hard to talk about why you’re likable when you feel so unlikable. Hannah has occasionally alluded to my “softer side.” I don’t think I have a “softer side.” Sounds ridiculous. Maybe I do, though, and maybe that’s responsible for the heart-capturing you mentioned. As to the panty-soaking… haha. What can I say?

2. Be honest. How did you really feel about how M. Pierce ended your first book?

M. ended the book in the only way possible. Ah… this is a tricky question. You’ll see. You’ll learn about the author and writing of Night Owl in Last Light, and you’ll see what happened and why. I can’t say more, or I’ll spoil the book for you.

3. You have a very popular Facebook page. What’s the most shocking message a fan has written you? Sweetest thing a fan has messaged you?

I am sure my readers will be perusing this interview, and I don’t dare throw one of them under the bus by disclosing the most “shocking message” in too much detail. Suffice it to say, there have been many exciting encounters, pictures, voice messages…

The sweetest thing a reader sent me was a recording of herself singing “Smile.”
(So sweet!)

4. You’ve obtained tremendous success as an author. What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?

There’s one piece of advice I’m inclined to give – “never give up” – but that’s not advice any true writer needs. If you were born to write, determination is in your DNA.

So, my advice would be – Write what you have to write.

Many writers try to emulate the success of others, or produce a book to please the crowd, their loved ones, some idea of what’s literary or commercial. That is the deadliest mistake you can make. In your heart, you know what you have to write. The book you need to write. No other book will ring true, and you can’t run from the book that’s in your soul. (LOVE this advice.)

5. Seriously, what is up with the pig grunting fetish? Why is this such a turn on?

Ha! This is a never-before asked question. I don’t know whether to slow-clap or hang my head.

The pig scene. Right. The Fourth of July. Feels like a dream, that memory.

You two are quite bad, asking about this. But I may as well discuss it. I do not have some kind of bizarre pig fetish. I do have a bit of a shame fetish, though. Maybe you’ve noticed. Embarrassing Hannah in bed, making her blush with the things I say or do (or the things I make her say or do), turns me on. It turns her on, too. We’ve got good chemistry like that.

6. What haven’t you tried sexually that’s still on your “to-do” list?

I’ve done a lot of different things with past girlfriends. With Hannah, though, I’d love to explore exhibitionism. We did some of that in the back room at the Dynamite Club. I want to go further with it. That’s all I’ll say for now… but if you read After Dark, you’ll see.

7. Fun fact we don’t know about you.

My aunt forced me and my brothers into a variety of lessons when we were young. Including dance lessons. (She has ideas about “well-rounded young men.”) Anyway, I could waltz you around the room alright, I guess.

8. Fun fact about M. Pierce that we could potentially use to profusely tease M about on social media?

Haha. Well, let’s see. M wakes up and goes promptly to the fridge and drinks milk. Every morning. Straight from a personal carton. And sometimes, in a sleep daze, M grabs the half and half instead of the milk. Need I say more? (Uh, yes, Matt, we definitely need more...)

9. Privacy is very important to you. Is there any one specific event in your life that caused you to treasure your privacy to the extent that you do?

Not at all. I suppose that’s a personal neurosis. My literary fiction is very autobiographic, so readers get to know me through my books. I don’t know that I would be able to write, though, if I were a public figure. Privacy is important to my creative process.

10. Nate. Tell us how you really feel about Nate and Hannah’s relationship/friendship.

It pisses me off. I love my brother, I love Hannah, but I don’t fucking love wondering about their… whatever it is. I fucking hate thinking about all the time they spent alone together… flying east to rescue me, driving around, cleaning the cabin while I was in the hospital. I mean, anything could have happened. It’s not that I don’t trust them, you know? But Nate’s a real charmer – and the worst kind of guy, a good guy – and Hannah is irresistible. They spend a lot of time together in Last Light, too. Fucking hell. My brothers are a pain in the ass. (I realize how ungrateful I sound right now. Maybe I shouldn’t talk about this.)

11. Laurence. How has he coped with his sudden stardom? More importantly, will he have a pivotal role in the sequel novels?

Laurence has a Twitter account ( https://twitter.com/StudBunPierce ) (oh snap we didn't know Laurence has a Twitter account!) and now claims to have written the books. I mean Night Owl and so forth. It’s not right. The stardom has gone straight to his head. He refers to himself as “Stud Bun Pierce” and goes on and on about “the ladies” and “his carrot.” (hah hah hah his carrrot) I don’t know what to do. He’s basically demanded that M put him in Last Light and After Dark. And of course he wants “a pivotal role” in the plot.

Now your favorite topic… Hannah.

12. Describe your gut reaction and feeling when you saw Hannah for the first time in person.

It was very visceral. I run the risk of waxing romantic if I try to describe it. I don’t know. I froze, you know? And I kind of lost touch with reality. She was dancing in Lot 49 and somehow she got outside and across the street without my realizing it – that’s how far gone I was. And… when you meet the girl who’s going to own your heart forever (awe, as M. likes to says, #feels, Matt, hint, this is the "softer side" of you Hannah is referring to)… it’s just… not like any other meeting. The moment was full of significance. I knew that everything was going to change for me. Because of that, it was a little terrifying, like looking into an abyss.

13. Your relationship with Hannah was initially based on strong physical chemistry. Describe the moment when you realized you became emotionally invested.

Good question. It’s impossible for me to completely separate the physical and emotional feelings, but you’re right, mostly my attraction was physical – at first. I’d been writing with Hannah online and admired her prose well enough, and I had a subtle intellectual attraction, but nothing overwhelming. Things began to get emotional for me on the Fourth of July, after we had sex in Hannah’s room. I wanted to tell her that I was falling love. It felt too soon, though. Then we went camping and everything really hit me. I loved her. I was falling for her. My attraction was off the charts, and way deeper than looks. So… you know. Things intensified from there.

14. There was a heartbreaking time when Hannah said she lost “her Matt,” but you came back to her in full force after her “birthday present.” It was a highly erotic and sexually vulnerable experience. Will you share what made this the moment that seemed to allow you to overcome some fears?

God damn. Ha. I can’t believe you’re asking me about this.

Mm… let’s see. My birthday. Yeah.

So, ah… I was… pretty depressed at the time. I don’t know. And Hannah… took the initiative, did something bold. You know. I guess… she basically made me submit to her desires. And I’m not used to submitting. The experience reawakened my need for control, the passion Hannah loves about me. She brought me back. She’s so fucking incredible…

15. Most memorable moment with Hannah.

Our camping trip in the mountains. Specifically, Hannah sitting by the fire, before anything sexual happened. Just that… that moment. The sparks from the fire. Hannah in the firelight. I’ll never forget the way I felt, looking at her.

16. What’s the hottest thing Hannah has said to you?

"Give it to me, Matt, fuck me, come in me—"

That.
(Approved)

17.  What are the first three words that come to mind when you think of Hannah?

Bird

Love

Tits (I’m sorry, but it is what it is)

18. What was the last text message you sent to Hannah?

We text while she’s at work. I was trying to get her to touch herself in her office. (It worked.) Anyway, she was nearly off work. Looks like the last text, verbatim, was: “Come give it to me.” (She did.)

Let's play word association. When I describe something, tell us the first word that pops into your mind.

19. Matt Sky in Night Owl. Lexus

20. Matt Sky in Last Light. Cabin

21. Matt and Hannah in Night Owl. Sex

22. Matt and Hannah in Last Light. Sex

23. Nate & Seth in Last Light. Assholes

24. M. Pierce. Night owl

Final question.

25.We just lovingly and intrusively bombarded you with lots of questions. Any revelations or last thoughts you would like to share with us and your fans?

You’ve asked great questions. This is what I’ll say in parting. I’m notoriously private, and maybe sometimes it seems I’m hiding from my readers because I dislike them, but it’s never been that. I’m more private than ever now that Hannah’s in my life. I have to protect her from public exposure. I want to give her a life untainted by observation and cruel speculation. We all wear masks. But don’t imagine I despise the public or my readers. The man behind this mask cares. (#feels #softersidealert)

Thank you for visiting our blog today Matt. Hope you had fun and come back to visit us soon. Please give M, Hannah, & Laurence our love.

Will do. It’s been a pleasure, Lisa and Milasy. Hannah will want to hear all about this interview. M will be either angry or wryly amused that I disclosed the half and half drinking habits. Laurence… don’t even get me started. As for me, I had a great time with you today. Let’s do this again.
